Who I am
Hi, welcome to Urn Song Design. My name is Sheri White.
I live in Mi'kma'ki. The ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi'kmaq people.
I was fortunate to receive my pottery education through a two-year apprenticeship with Paula MacDonald in Chester, Nova Scotia, in the late '90s. Since then, I have had various studios, from bathroom-sized to a soulful little red cottage nestled amongst the trees.
At the end of 2019, I decided to shrink my footprint and moved my studio home. During COVID-19, I began the process of greening my studio. I also began to look at our yard and how it was being used and developed a plan to create raised beds for vegetable gardens.
In 2022, I took it a step further. I removed all of the grass in our front yard. I planned out a design mainly using native species in a naturalistic setting. Then….I began a certificate in landscape design. That was where I learned what I did right and where I needed to improve. With a lust for new information, I also completed a certificate in permaculture, a 12-week introduction, where I find myself now—trying to live my life as much as possible through the philosophy of permaculture.
The highlights of my career as a potter so far have been my collaborative endeavours, whether with commercial clients, other artists, or individual clients, to make something meaningful. I am excited that I get to continue on this path for 2025.
Urn Song Design aims to work with you on ceramics or as a planting resource to add significance to your life indoors and out.
