One of the aspects I love most about being a potter is the important element of design. Every piece I make was once an illustration in my sketchbook. Every pattern started on paper, or sometimes by accident, or with a view from the water. It all starts with inspiration, trial and error, and then sometimes I get what I'm looking for.
Here are some of my favourite patterns and shapes.

Patterns
I am inspired by what I see around me. Whether it is the gorgeous colours of thread used by Nova Scotian weavers moving me to search for turquoise glazes or to play with stripes, or the blue/green hues of our Atlantic Ocean and exposed cliffs of the Bay of Fundy, or the simple silhouettes of nature, whether stark or colourful. What I see informs the work that you see here.

Purpose
I work primarily in stoneware clay that exhibits some stone-like characteristics such as light speckles or roughness on unglazed areas. I use a cone 6 clay and food safe glazes that are fired to a temperature of approximately 2200 degrees Fahrenheit. My stoneware pieces are dishwasher and microwave safe.
